The Field of Membership
As a member-owned cooperative, Alabama Credit Union serves a specific "field of membership" mandated by federal charter. This isn't a barrier to entry; rather, it's a commitment to the communities we serve, ensuring that the capital generated here stays here.
Our primary path to membership is geographic. If you reside, work, worship, or attend school in any of our designated counties—including major hubs like Alabama Credit Union Tuscaloosa AL or our coastal presence at Alabama Credit Union Foley AL—you are eligible.
Once you join, you are a member for life. Even if you move across the country or change careers, your account stays with you as long as it remains active with the required five-dollar share savings balance.

Preparation Checklist
Identity Proof
To comply with federal regulations, we must verify the identity of every person opening an account.
- Valid Driver's License
- State Issued Photo ID
- U.S. Passport
Residency Proof
If your current address doesn't match your ID, we require one of the following dated within 60 days.
- Utility Bill (Electric/Water)
- Lease or Mortgage Statement
- University Enrollment Proof
Ownership Deposit
This five-dollar deposit is your buy-in. It isn't a fee; it's your share of our equity.
Required to maintain membership status and voting rights for the Board of Directors.
The Path to
Active Banking
Verification is a digital-first process. Most members activate their alabama credit union online banking within 24 hours of submission.
STEP 01 Online Submission
Complete the digital application form. You will need your Social Security number and the contact details for any joint owners you wish to add. If you are a student, have your university email ready for expedited alabamacu login setup.
STEP 02 Digital Identity Verification
Using our secure portal, you'll snap a photo of your government ID and a live selfie. This biometric matching ensures that the person opening the account is you, protecting the cooperative from fraud. This phase is handled by encrypted protocols to safeguard your PII (Personally Identifiable Information).
STEP 03 Funding & Credentials
Once verified, you’ll fund your Share Savings account with the initial $5.00 via ACH transfer or debit card. Immediately after, you will receive your temporary alabamacu login credentials to set up your mobile app and online profile.
